Four Rooms of Cloth

The Fabric Library

Every bolt in the house is catalogued — mill, country, weight in grams, weave and the season it was woven for. Handle anything you like; the cloth is meant to be touched.

Houses We Buy From

Twenty-six mills, direct

No agents, no middle warehouse. We travel to the mill, choose from the season's book, and the cloth ships to Surat under our own name.

Choosing

How to pick cloth well

01

Weight before colour

In Surat, anything above 300 g/m will be worn twice a year at most. Decide the season first — the colour will still be there afterwards.

02

Crush it in your hand

Hold a corner tightly for five seconds and release. Good worsted recovers almost completely; honest linen does not, and should not pretend to.

03

See it in daylight

We carry every bolt to the window. Shop light flatters greys and lies about blues — a navy that looks black indoors is not the navy you wanted.

04

Buy the length once

A bolt is finite and dye lots differ. If the cloth is right, take enough for trousers twice — we will store the extra for you, free.

By Appointment

Spend an hour in the fabric rooms

Bring a garment you already love and we will find its cloth, or something better. No obligation to commission.
